Aaqil Ahmed is a very busy man. In addition to running an independent media consultancy, he is a non-executive director for a number of regulators and a Professor of Media Studies at the University of Bolton. He’s also an active and vocal advocate for diversity, public service broadcasting and religious literacy.
Between 2009-2016 he was the BBC’s Head of Religion and Ethics. Before that he headed up religion and multicultural programming at Channel 4. And before that he was Deputy Editor of Documentaries in the BBC’s Religion and Ethics department.
Among his better known TV projects are Panorama, Everyman and BBC news specials such as The funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. He is also responsible for award winning programmes such as Saving Africa’s Witch Children, The Qur’an, Inside The Mind Of A Suicide Bomber, and Christianity: A History. In 2005 he was voted No 4 on the list of The 20 Most Powerful Asians in Britain.
