Tim Daykin

Tim Daykin is currently a member of the Chapter at Salisbury Cathedral, a role he took up after stepping away from his work in broadcasting in 2020. 

After studying chemistry at the University of London’s Royal Holloway College in the early 1970s, Tim went on to train as a minister in Durham and then spent several years as a part-time church history research student at King’s College London. Tim was ordained in Guildford Cathedral in 1978 and served his curacy in Farnham before becoming Chaplain to King Alfred’s College, now The University of Winchester. 

In the 1980s, he planned a new church in Chandler’s Ford before becoming vicar of Fordingbridge, developing a pattern of partnership ministry between the town and surrounding villages. While in Fordingbridge, Tim joined the BBC. 

In 2005, he moved to a part-time post leading Southampton’s City Centre Church, St Michael’s, and in 2014, stepped back from parish ministry to concentrate on religious broadcasting. 

Tim was a producer and presenter of religious programmes at BBC Radio Solent from 2003 until 2020. Tim spent several years contributing to Morning Thoughts on the Julian Clegg Breakfast Show, often commenting on religious issues, and would take over the regular Sunday morning programme. Tim has worked across the local radio network of 39 stations, producing projects that include the network’s contribution to BBC Radio 2’s Faith in the World Week.
