David Strachan
David Strachan completed a Bachelor of Divinity at the University of Aberdeen in 1974, followed by a Diploma in Pastoral Studies at the University of Aberdeen. After a few years working in television, he became an Assistant Minister in Aberdeen and later a Parish Minister in Aberfeldy, before leaving his roles within the Church of Scotland to return to his television career in 1985. While a Parish Minister, he was a member of BBC Scotland Religious Advisory Committee.
In 1988, David became the founding managing director of Tern Television, a production company behind Songs of Praise. He oversaw the growth of the company from a staff of four to more than fifty in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Belfast, until he stepped down from that role in June 2018. For 19 years he was Scottish representative on the board of the producer’s trade association and served a term on the board of Scottish Screen.
He is an honorary professor in the film and media studies department of the University of Stirling.
